Unusual…
Notice that the baby bird is almost as large as the female cardinal but coloring is way off. The Cowbird has a habit of laying eggs in another bird’s nest and letting them raise the offspring. The nest owner just assumes responsibility. We have several cowbirds around and the coloring of this young one has the coloring of a juvenile cowbird so it appears we have more lazy parents.
This is the earliest I’ve seen a Monarch in my yard. They usually come late July or so here.
